"What do the PAT Testing regulations stipulate"

portable appliance testingRegulation 4(2) of the Electricity at Work Act states:- It is neccessary to prevent danger. All systems shall be maintained so far as is reasonably practically possible to prevent such danger.

"What does this act mean?"

It is the responsibility of all employers to ensure all electrical appliances used by their employees are safe and pose no risk of injury.

"Risk"

Appliances are categorised into a risk assessment system used by the IEE (Institute of Electrical Engineers) determined by how appliances are used and whom is using them.

"Why"

Portable electrical appliances are used every day in the workplace. All these appliances require attention at some stage in their working life. Leads, plugs and appliances can become damaged. This may result in an electric shock or sometimes fire. For this reason the appliances require PAT testing by a competent engineer.
