South Wales Fire and Rescue Service
Calbarrie was appointed to provide PAT and Fixed Installation Testing via the Eastern Shires Purchasing Organisation (ESPO) Framework. A contract was awarded for a two year period with an option to extend for a further 12 months. The first year of the contract has been very successful.
Building Facilities Manager, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service
Electrical safety specialist Calbarrie Compliance Services is working with South Wales Fire and Rescue Service to ensure that fire stations and fire-fighting equipment across South Wales meet electrical safety standards.
As part of the three-year contract Calbarrie is testing around 30,000 portable appliances in fire stations and on fire appliances and 2,000 fixed wire circuits.
The Fire and Rescue Service operates 20 stations across South Wales where full-time Firefighters provide 24-hour cover in four separate ‘Watches’, and 27 stations with retained Firefighters providing round the clock cover to the community where they live.
The contract includes testing of essential equipment at the headquarters in Llantrisant near Cardiff. The powering down of equipment requires careful planning and collaboration with the Building Facilities Manager and flexibility of working from Calbarrie to avoid disruption to critical services. To maintain 24-hour access to equipment visual inspections are carried out in line with the Fire and Rescue Service’s specifications which exceed the BS 7671 requirement. Calbarrie records testing dates online with scheduling dates automatically generated for the following year, thus avoiding the risk of testing dates being missed.
Calbarrie’s experience within the emergency services sector has contributed to the smooth running of vital operations, and we are adding value through tailored delivery and commitment to long-term partnerships which will improve performance, reduce costs and increase control.
